The Department recently received notice of this internship opportunity:
Congresswoman Betty Sutton’s re-election campaign is seeking intelligent, reliable and highly motivated college students or recent graduates for campaign internships. Our interns are viewed as a valuable part of the team and will assist with finance, communication and field operations. This is an unpaid position but can be used towards school credit. Applicants should be able to dedicate 10-40 hrs/wk. Interested candidates please send a cover letter and resume to Elizabeth@bettysutton.com.
Please note that you can get History or Political Science credit for internships, but you need to speak to the Department Chair first and devise a plan. The Department normally requires some academic work (after all, you are getting academic credit for this!). A typical plan would involve writing a research paper on some topic related to the internship, but there are other options.
Ashland University will be hosting the Ohio Regional meeting of Phi Alpha Theta, the national history honorary, on Saturday, March 31. Students and faculty from all over the state--and some from out of state--are expected to travel to Ashland for the event, which is being sponsored by Ashland University's Department of History and Political Science and the university's Omicron Zeta chapter of Phi Alpha Theta.
The conference will consist of a series of panels, organized around particular themes and made up of students presenting papers, with prizes awarded for those judged to be the best. All students are invited to submit proposals to present papers, although only Phi Alpha Theta members are eligible to win prizes. The conference will also feature a keynote address by Michael Schwarz, Assistant Professor of History at Ashland University, entitled "Thomas Jefferson: The Indispensable Founder."
The cost to attend the conference is $25, plus a $2.50 service charge; the fee includes admission to all conference events and all conference materials, as well as a continental breakfast and served lunch provided by Ashland University's award-winning dining service. Registration will be handled online at https://www.wepay.com/events/123897.
